The Fifth Annual Night 1000 Stars

February 06, 2010

By submitted

The Taos Community PTSA is delighted to announce that our exciting, multicultural, and highly anticipated community youth talent show " The Fifth Annual Night of 1000 Stars" will take place at the TCA on April 16 and 17, 2010. There will be three shows with performances on Friday April 16 at 7:30 P.M., Saturday April 17 at 1:30 P.M. and Saturday April 17 at 7:30 P.M.

Auditions for all performers 5-19 years old are over one weekend only this year. Auditions are:
Thursday, March 4th from 4:00-8:00 P.M., Friday, March 5th from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M., Saturday, March 6th 9:30 A.M. - 12:30 P.M. and Sunday, March 7th from 1:00 - 4:00 P.M. at the Taos Youth & Family Center. Co Creator &Artistic Director; Cindy Valerio states that this will be an extra special event due to the show's fifth year status, the high caliber of talent expected, role of teens behind the scenes and on stage, and having Aidan Bain as our Technical Director for the second year in a row. Teens will once again serve as talent show judges, hosts on stage and technical staff backstage to help produce the show. Taos Community PTSA adults who are involved in the project for the fifth year in a row include; Hui Bau, Irene Cordova, Ann Hiller, Michelle Concha, Scott & Dani Kesson.

All students in grades K-12 (ages 5-19) from Taos County are invited to audition and potentially perform in the show! We are seeking children and teens who act, sing, dance, play instruments, have a band, recite poetry, are comedians & rap artists or have any other performing arts talents. It is always thrilling to see who will show up to audition and organizers are expecting a record number of performers to audition this year. We are also happy to welcome back previous "Stars" performers and welcome new "Stars" at our auditions.

Performers need to come prepared and show us your 3 minute act as you plan to perform it on stage. Bands may prepare two numbers for a total of 6-7 minutes of music for the audition. If you are a singer who needs piano accompaniment, please be prepared to sing a capella without accompaniment as is done at the "American Idol" auditions. There isn't a piano nor will there be an accompanist on site at the Taos Youth & Family Center. An accompanist for the "The Fifth Annual Night of 1000 Stars" live performances will be provided for you but you will have to rehearse with him/her before Dress Rehearsals. If anyone has an electronic keyboard you are welcome to bring and play it at the auditions. If you are auditioning as a pianist and need a real piano, we will also arrange a separate time to hear and watch you play the piano.

If you are using a karaoke CD for your background accompaniment, please bring it with you as there will be a CD player on site. Dancers should be aware that the floor is not a wooden dance floor
so if that is a problem, an audition will be scheduled at another site with the proper dance floor.

Students who audition and hope to perform in the "Night of 1000 Stars" shows must attend a Dress Rehearsal after school into the early evening on either Weds. April 14 or Thurs. April 15 depending
on which show they are in. If you cannot attend the Dress Rehearsal then you cannot be in the show.

Audition forms have contact information, technical requirements (microphones, cords, amplifiers, piano, CD player etc) and an agreement that they will attend the Dress Rehearsal(s) as requested.
